Riverside FM - Youth Programmes Report 

Young people between the ages of 12 and 25 produced and presented around 70 hours of programming over 3 weeks on Riverside FM. Around 150 took part in live or pre-recorded programmes. In their programmes they talked about all sorts of topics that affect the lives of young people, ranging from relationships, crime, and drugs to poetry, art and music. 

What emerged, after all the training and planning, was a rich mix of programmes – all made by young people, for a young audience. Throughout the three weeks the programme makers were given the opportunity to broadcast to a live audience – growing into confident, dynamic presenters. The programmes highlighted different topics daily, with a mixture of music, chat and discussion, plus music based programmes on Saturday and Sunday evenings. 

Some were experienced and confident enough after training to put together their programmes, others worked with support workers to develop their work. FlexiSchool Acton, an education project based in West London, co-ordinated the programming, offering support to individuals and groups when it was needed. The Lock in Log on campaign, Hammersmith and Fulham’s crime prevention initiative, also helped groups to put together programme content based on young people’s issues.

	Rosie and friends	Three very different girls present a few of their favourite tracks, say why they like them, and find out what the others think of them.

Sunday July 18th	Lianna	Lianna and two young hopefuls ask Beverley Knight for tips on how to succeed in the music industry
	Gemini	The first Gemini show, with Jahmyrna – Raga and more music, with guests
	Chad and Sherina	Chad and Sherina and crew with their own rap
	Live Linq	Since their last appearance on Riverside FM in 2002 this local crew have become well known for their slick presentation and showmanship.
Monday July 19th	Relationships & pregnancy	Marika talks to a young mum and other teenagers about pregnancy and babies

Tuesday July 20th	Young people and crime	Marika presents two hours of music and chat about how crime effects the lives of young people in West London today
	Children’s Parliament	Featuring children from Wormolt Primary School.
WednesdayJuly21st	Showcase - with Cultural Entertainment Enterprises	Budgie and friends present local talent
	Jermaine & Michael	Sharkey P is the celebrity guest on Jermain & Michael’s music show.
Thursday July 21st	The Poetry show	Presented by Sophie Humes, featuring young poets/musicians and news of the poetry slam at Riverside last weekend
	SAS Mode	UK Garage
Friday July 23rd	Rahel Tedros	Rahel and Rosie pesent a magazine programme.
	Dedication to Anton	Friends of murdered teenager Anton Hyman present dedications and memories. Contributions from around 15 young people who knew Anton. Produced through FlexiSchool Acton
