Riverside FM 2004

Some of the team in the Riverside FM studioRiverside FM, the dynamic community and arts radio station broadcast its second RSL to West London on 87.7FM from 16 July until 7 August 2004 from Riverside Studios in Hammersmith.

It was a collaboration between Women’s Radio Group, the Workers' Educational Association and Riverside Studios. Financial support for the training of the young people was provided by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.  Click here for a list of all supporters.

Highlights

Shape and RIVERSIDE FM present:
Charing Cross Tales - The Prologues
Saturday 24th July, 12-1 pm
A celebration of the voices of elders in the community.  A sequence of monologues written by poet Evlynn Sharp and performed by a team of actors. The sequence presents different characters who meet in an elderly care ward. It is inspired by Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and also Evlynn’s previous work for Shape, recording the lives of patients on the Harold Wesley Ward in Charing Cross Hospital, in Hammersmith. 


Youth Programmes
Weekday evenings, 4-6.30pm and 10pm till late - Saturdays 7pm till midnight.
Programmes produced by young people for young people, highlighting different topics daily, with music, chat and discussions, plus music based programmes on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Voluntary Voice
Weekdays, 12.30pm - 1.30pm
Guests include West London Chair of VSO and the Samaritans (both Mon 19th); The Befriending Network (Wed 21st); Amnesty International, the National Blood Service (both Mon 26th) and Shooting Star Trust Hospice (Tues 27th).

Dream Job
Weekdays, 2.30pm - 4pm
Guests include Andrea Mclean, weather forecaster/TV travel presenter (Mon 2nd August) and Caroline Raphael, BBC Radio Drama Commissioning Editor (Wed 4th)

The Guest List - Arts magazine programme
Weekday evenings, 8pm - 9pm.  
Highlights, w/b 2nd August:  musician Ian McNab, guitarist Tom Anfield playing live in the studio (presented by Andrianna Maimaris, Mon 2nd); focus on writers and poets (presented by Phil McGinley, Tues 3rd); studio guest Tim Ecott, broadcaster and writer  (presented by Keya Ashraf and Shao Lan Yuen, Wed 4th); Kate Aumonier playing acoustic music live, studio guests from Portobello Film Festival (presented by Doune Couper and Terri Scooper, Thurs 5th); Eel Pie Island Discs, live music featuring buskers from the London Underground (presented by Jonathan Slack, Fri 6th)

Creative Juice 
Weekday evenings, 9pm - 10pm
Original arts programming featuring a range of guests and topics, including
a male ballet dancer who started learning the profession at the age of 19, a ballet school for Downs Syndrome children and a feature on the Notting Hill Carnival.

Packed Lunch
Saturdays 1pm - 1.30pm
Fun and flirty lunchtime half hour packed with useful information on wine tasting, alfresco dining, ice cream and real ale.  Meet the food fanatics of Borough Market and hear the views of Ben McCormack, editor of Square Deal Magazine.  An Egg&Spoon production for Riverside FM presented by Nicola Gallani.

Urban Jungle 
Saturdays, 2pm - 4pm
A lively show tackling the environmental issues affecting West London

'Dinner Ladies'
Sundays, 11am - 1pm
A tongue in cheek show which aims to uplift!  With regular features including 'Liquid Lunch with Clive', 'Radio Therapy' and 'Spoof News'.

Sport on a Sunday 
Sundays, 1pm - 2pm, with Collette Tully
Interviews with local sporting heroes past, present & future, review of the local sporting events & results.

Gael Force 
Fridays, 7pm - 8pm, with Kerrie McEvoy
A mixture of traditional and contemporary Irish music, including Kila, Danu, Lunasa, Eleanor McEvoy, Damien Rice, U2, Gavin Friday, Mundy and Alan O'Rourke. Plus features, live interviews and music showcases, including with local Irish musician, J. Owen.
